Martijn Riksen

Martijn Riksen (Arnhem, 1989) is a Maastricht-based visual artist and a graduate of MAFAD.

His body of works, encompassing both traditional and new media, is characterised by the use of strong, saturated colours and reduced, geometrical forms. Riksen has developed his own iconography, in which recurring motifs are elements of landscape and human body, reduced to the extent close to abstraction.

His artistic practice is based on almost ritual repetition – he keeps reworking and rearranging elements, what allows him for consistency but also constant development.

All his works have a dualistic quality of being apparently naïve and serene, while at the same time having a hidden, very carnal and disturbing dimension.
